Ponda: We Don't Want Industries to Occupy Residential Areas - Borim Residents

Ponda, Jul 30: Residents of Borim village have served an ultimatum to the local Panchayat not to issue a ‘no objection certificate’ to any new industry and have also demanded to revoke one such issue to the concrete blocks manufacturing factory, failing that, they will be forced to hit the roads.
Borim village falls in Shiroda constituency represented by industries minister Mahadev Naik, who recently has announced to setup three more industrial estates in Goa, to change the industrial scenario in the state.

According to the people present at the Gramsabha held on July 29, this particular factory was issued a ‘no objection certificate’ couple of months ago by the village panchayat.
Borim village has its importance as famous Shree Navdurga Temple is situated here and as this factory was supposed to start in its vicinity people started opposing it.

Utkarsh Prabhu Borkar, secretary of Navdurga Temple committee raised the issue and placed the facts about how industries in residential areas could affect the life of people.

People’s hue and cry over the issue forced the panchayat members to take the resolution in regard to revoke the NOC issued to the concrete blocks manufacturing industry.

Around hundred odd residents of Borim were present. Most of them also discussed the issue of employment which is denied to locals by industries which already have a good foothold in the state.
It was witnessed that, people were waving the documents and copies in the air procured under Right to Information act, which gave them confidence to raise their voices against illegalities.

Gramsabha which lasted for around four hours also discussed the issues of illegal scrap yards and garbage.
