Right To Information Act Commissioner M. Ratan has decided to double his number of visits to the districts to reduce pendency of applications seeking information from various government departments.

''I have started visiting the districts, one day each in rotation. I will increase the during of each visit to two days to expedite disposal of pending applications and facilitate free flow of information'', he told reporters here after a day-long hearing at the Prakasam Bhavan. Show cause notices were issued in five cases as information sought had not been provided in time, he said.

''Since 2010 as many as 14,000 appeals are pending in the State. As many as 2,600 are being handled by me and of them 1600 alone related to the Revenue Department'', he said. Saving money and time for the applicants who would otherwise had to visit Hyderabad for redressal of their grievances, 25 appeals were disposed off in a day on Tuesday. Mr. Ratan told officials to provide all data concerned on the website as per Section 4 (1) (B) of the Act.
