MUMBAI: An NCP party worker and his associate, who claimed to be an RTI activist, were arrested by the Kurar police on charges of extortion on Tuesday. The arrested duo, Sunil Bairagi (33) and Namdev Ahire (41), had approached a salon owner, Rajub Agrahari (42), in Malad (E) and demanded a sum of Rs 80,000 from him. Agrahari had carried out repairs at his home, from where he also ran his salon, in January this year. The duo told him that they were going to write to the BMC under the RTI Act and ensure that the structure was demolished. They also threatened to abduct Agrahari's son if he failed to pay the amount.
