Standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday decided not to proceed further with the present draft of water supply agreement of 11.50 TMC with the state irrigation department and asked the municipal commissioner to present the draft before the standing committee for discussion before signing the agreement.
After the draft of the water supply agreement between PMC and the state was made public through the Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005 by city-based NGO Sajag Nagrik Manch, all party members in the standing committee unanimously revoked the rights given to the municipal commissioner for directly signing the water supply agreement with the state.
Moreover, the standing committee will demand around 6.5 TMC additional water from the state irrigation department.
The 2004 agreement on water distribution between the state and the PMC lapsed in 2010, and a new agreement was expected to be signed by the municipal commissioner Mahesh Pathak on Tuesday.
