Now, six months and several Right To Information (RTI) applications later, he has still not got the answer as to why the bus stop was shifted in front of his residence.

The traffic department, in its reply, had informed Prashant that the bus stop was shifted in the first week of December as the earlier location was “hazardous”. However, neither the land-owning agency—Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)—nor the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) were notified about the shift, say replies by respective corporations.

Added to this, the present bus stop is just 10 meters away from a left turn, which many residents here feel is “even more dangerous” for traffic.

East of Kailash RWA president, Ramesh Sharma, told Newsline: “Even the residents of East of Kailash were not consulted prior to the shifting.”
In a letter to DCP (traffic) dated March 14, 2007, Senior Manager (Traffic) of DTC, HC Gupta, said the new location “is not suitable for traffic as the left turn is very close to the stop”.

A study commissioned by the traffic department and conducted by the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) also confirmed that the new location of the stop is dangerous.

As per the IRTE’s assessment report of relocation of the stop, the volume of traffic affected by the relocation is much higher when compared to the earlier location.

The earlier location affected traffic coming only from one direction but the present one affects traffic coming from three directions, the report says.

AK Jindal, a resident of E-21, told Newsline: “Last week, a DTC bus accidentally climbed on to the pavement near E-20 and rammed into a peepul tree. I have seen two other major accidents on the stretch since the bus stop was shifted.”
Even passengers complain that there is no place for them to stand at the stop as three telephone boxes occupy the footpath, thereby forcing them to wait on the main road.

Garg, a software professional, says that he will not give up till he finds out the truth. “I will file even more RTI appeals till I get to the core of the problem, though I am starting to lose faith in it,” he said

Re: Why bus stop in front of house? South Delhi resident files RTI

but , is it so necessary to shift bus-stand from one side to another side?
as you have mentioned that there is no place to stand, not only this still lots of problems will come.
as traffic is one of the major problems faced by every citizen in all parts of india.
