Can anybody guide me about applicability of RTI act to Co operative
Housing Societies in Maharashtra and if yes who is PIO and what is
the procedure for asking information regarding Co operative Housing Society. ( Does one need to be a member of perticular Hsg. Soc. for
requesting information from the Soc. )

Hello Mr.Jagadish,

Although even I am quite new on this issue, I can tell you for sure that generally all correspondences with the society are done ONLY with the 'Member' of that society.

In case someone wants to depute someone on his behalf to he can do so by making him an "associate member", But then the associate member will be entitled ONLY to attend the society meetings on his behalf, no other rights will be given to him.

Co-operatice societies are not directly covered. You can file RTI application to the Registrar of Co-operative Societies to get all information relating to your housing society which can be accessed by the RCS.

Even I used to wonder how Hsg Societies fall under the purview of RTI...Now I understand

coop housing society do not fall under RTI
since they do not have any govt shares or finance
commissioner cooperation had issued circuler to that effect
they just like pvt entitys
