Can anybody guide me about applicability of RTI act to Co operative
Housing Societies in Maharashtra and if yes who is PIO and what is
the procedure for asking information regarding Co operative Housing Society. ( Does one need to be a member of perticular Hsg. Soc. for
requesting information from the Soc. )
    Thanking All concerned with Regards

    Hello Mr.Jagadish,

Although even I am quite new on this issue, I can tell you for sure that generally all correspondences with the society are done ONLY with the 'Member' of that society.

In case someone wants to depute someone on his behalf to he can do so by making him an "associate member", But then the associate member will be entitled ONLY to attend the society meetings on his behalf, no other rights will be given to him.

@ RTI being applicable to Housing Societies: YES, it is applicable, our experienced members/staff from rtiindia.org community can guide you further on this

Co-operatice societies are not directly covered. You can file RTI application to the Registrar of Co-operative Societies to get all information relating to your housing society which can be accessed by the RCS.

Not all issues of cooperative housing society are covered by RTI. Before rushing to the Deputy/asst Registrar of the concerned society, make an application for information to the Society. The right of inspection is restricted to only members of the society to which they belong & not other houising society.Besides the content is also limited & not unbridlled. Thereafter if the Society does not yield to make an application to Dep. Registrar, but he is also obliged to furnish documents that are filed in office by the Society,as per the Statute, & as available with him as mandated by law & the law of preservation of public records.

IF ANY issue prevail the inspection can be called by the member & then authorize /nominate stating not have knowledge or understanding eg. (account) SO ASSIGNING TO LOOK ON MY BEHALF may be allowed at the society office at scheduled time,
limit to look in into is all the matter where in your contribution is made out of your payment made

Re: Co operative Housing Societies Maharashtra

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am from Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. I am member of co-op housing society. Recently I submitted application to committee of our society which was rejected. My application was regards to telephone cable pair shortage / faulty ( as per MTNL) due to which my internet /phone not working good. MTNL internet/phone provider says they are responsible till their PANEL BOARD on ground floor and from that panel to individual resident it society maintenance part. Recently society got INTERCOM facility in our building due to which extra cable/pairs available from builder were used. Now as MTNL suggested me to fix internet problems permanently and for additional phone lines I need to make cabling. I request society committee to cooperate in cabling from MTNL point to duct (1st floor) and/or direct to my flat through small route and less expensive. I was also ready to share some % of expenses. But they society committee reject my application saying if we will do it for you all come tomorrow for same and everyone is doing their own cabling.
I would appreciate if you could please help to understand the law and rules of Maharashtra Co-op hsg and where I can go to registar and get help further in written to pass my application with society.
Please guide urgently as it is impacting on my work as well.

    Thank you in advance.
