| In every company, 50% of project funds are spent as BRIBES in India. However companies book these BRIBES as PROFITS in their books. Can we use RTI Act to prevent this corruption in India (at-least in listed companies) ?

RTI is very powerful in combating corruption. Its one of the main aims is containing corruption [read its preambles]. It is upto citizens to use it. Pl study ALL ABOUT RTI icon on home page and start shooting..........Corruption eradiction is a long drawn battle of common man of India, since 61 year mess cannot be cleaned in few months. Hence let us be prepared for second independence movement from our own corrupt rulers. May I quote:Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change a nation; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." -Dr. Margaret Mead “The real swaraj will come not by the acquisition of authority by a few, but by the acquisition of capacity by all to resist authority when abused.” Mahatma Gandhi.

Dr known ( or Unknown) instead of 50% only if you can dig out 10% bribe cases in public domain through RTI i would say you are 100% successful.come on . pick the pen

Dr. known, If a company booked the bribe paid as profit, it will have to pay income tax on it. The biggest problem a company faces while paying bribe is how to show the same as 'expenses' so that it can be deducted from profit. No one taking bribes issues a stamped receipt for it. So, it is really difficult proving it. But we can use RTI to show some irregularity, some rule that was bend or broken, some favouritism which occured as 'service provided against bribe received'. The fear of exposure will make bribery costly, and reduce the incidence of same. Do read thru success stories on this forum to see how this has been done by some (for example Justified? Rs9 lakh/yr on Rahul’s electrical repairs), and do read many many threads describing how attempts to uncover fraud were thwarted. But the fact that a common can can get information about all the shady deals itself has some impact on the mentality of babudom. And as more and more deals are questioned, it will be increasingly difficult to keep a shady deal in dark. |
