PCMC appoints 41 information officers

PUNE: Residents of the Pimpri-Chinchwad township can now expect quick responses to their applications filed under the Right To Information (RTI) Act, 2005 as the civic body has appointed 41 new information officers and an equal number of appellate officers.

A statement released here on Friday said that the appointments were done by Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) commissioner Dilip Band.

Earlier, the PCMC had three information officers and one appellate officer. The three information officers were assistant commissioner (citizen facilitation centre), medical officer of health (health department) and deputy city engineer (engineering department). The lone appellate officer was additional commissioner. Now, there is a separate appellate officer and information officer for each department.

The statement said that the new officers have been appointed to avoid delay and bring accuracy in the work under the RTI Act. These officers have started work from August 1 onwards and have been directed to send a report.

The officers concerned will be held responsible for giving incomplete information or not providing it on time. The departments without an information officer or appellate officer have been asked to contact Band.
