Awareness programme on Right to Information tomorrow Staff Reporter BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Chartered Accountants’ Association will organise an awareness programme on “Right to Information – gateway to good governance” at the Jnanajyothi convention centre here on Tuesday. The programme will be conducted in association with the Department of Commerce of Bangalore University and Doordarshan, Bangalore. According to Mallinath S. Nainegli, president of the association, the programme would help people know the ways through which information could be obtained by making use of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The programme provides an opportunity to take part in the panel discussion in which votaries as well as users of the Act will participate. The panellists are Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde; Arvind Kejriwal, founder of Parivarthan, who has won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for the use of RTI in his fight against corruption; K.K. Mishra, Chief Commissioner of the State Information Commission; V. Vijay Kumar, Registrar of National Law School of India University; Y.G. Muralidharan, trustee of Consumer Rights Education and Awareness Trust; and Katyayini Chamaraju, trustee of CIVIC Bangalore. The panel discussion will cover issues, including the scope of RTI, the rights of citizens under the Act and the timeframe within which information can be obtained. The programme will be inaugurated by Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath. Mr. Kejriwal will deliver the keynote address. Home Minister M.P. Prakash will participate in the programme.
