    Default BMC Building proposal department

During the floods of 26/7 our building has lost their important BMC approved building plans containing commencement certificate, approved plan and completion certificate. I do have the relevant file no. as one of our earlier secretaries had made a copy of the file no.

I made a written request to the building proposal department to provide us a copy of our entire file as I had the file no. However it's now more than 2 months and everytime I go to enquire they tell me verbally that they can't locate the file. Infact I interacted with the peon who searches records and he says he can't locate the same and mentions it might be lost. Can RTI be helpful here to request a copy of our building plans? To whom should the application be addressed? Could someone help me draft the request?

I have learnt from a friend that the BMC water department also keeps a copy of every building plans? Is it possible to request them under RTI to provide a copy of our building plans? to whom should the application be addressed?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

    Dear Sanjay Shetty,
RTI is definitely helpful in obtaining copies of such bulding plans from BMC. But remember to make the application in your individual name and not as Secretary of your Association/Society. Additionally, the reply of Karira(under post no.2) to the following thread will give you a lot of encouragement: How to ask for information

You ask for the file application and in your letter write that you will require the certified copies of the paper in the file after the inspection.
I am having very worst experience with the staff of Bldg Proposal department. In major of the cases they have replied me "that the information doesnt fall under the purview of RTI."

This is not acceptable under RTI. ALL information falls under RTI, the PIO has to find a reason or exemption why information does not fall under RTI. You can appeal to AA and then to CIC.

    hi Steve,

Suprisingly just the threat of RTI was good enough, and I got my documents :-)
