Mysoreans seem to be taking it easy. In other words, not many public-facing departments have received a number of applications under RTI Act. Ranking high in the list, Mysore Urban Development Authority - which is often mired in controversies - has received 537 applications seeking details pertaining to layout formation, priority list and allotment list. Kantharaj, the PIO at MUDA says 77 applications are pending. One applicant wanted details about sites allotted under special quota from the day MUDA came into existence two decades ago. At times, RTI is also used for personal gains. An officer at DC’s office said a lecturer had sought information about his wife who had attended the divorce proceedings in the court when she was on census duty. He wanted to know if she had performed her duties properly since she had taken off to attend the court hearing in the middle of her job. Another application had seven questions seeking details of agricultural and commercial land in Mysore taluk, as the Delhi-based applicant wanted to know if he could buy some land around the city.
