It is the official policy of the government to encourage use of Hindi and other regional languages in its day to day official business. The application is also submitted in Hindi, probably in Hindi speaking state. I do not see how you can object to use of Hindi Thr RTI Act mentions only about language of application, and reply. The communication between PIO and apellete authority may not be covered by these provisions. |

Section 6 (1) of the RTI provides that a person, who desires to obtain any information under this Act, shall make a request in writing or through electronic means in English or Hindi or in the official language of the area in which the application is being made, accompanying such fee as may be prescribed, to .........CPIO , APIO .....Since your application before ASPIO is in Hindi, it is the normal presumption that you prefer Hindi rather than any other language. Hindi and English enjoy equal status as official language of the Union of India which can be used unfettered by any State and hence you cannot object to filing reply in Hindi. You may get it translated to a language which you can understand better, in your own interest.

In states like M.P. and Rajasthan you always get all official communication in Hindi even if you file application or appeal in English. |
