Lucknow, September 4: THE victims of the Hashimpura massacre of 1987 have moved at least 615 Right to Information (RTI) applications on May 24 — the 20th anniversary of the massacre — to seek answers to the incident, in which, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel allegedly gunned down over 40 people in the Hashimpura, Meerut districts. Zulfikar Nasir, a survivor, said, “Only some of our queries have been answered. Critical information, including the Crime Branch-Central Investigation Department (CB-CID) report into the killings, has not been provided.” However, on Monday, Harmol Singh, DG, CBCID, assured survivors and activists of prompt action. “All information sought through RTI will be supplied soon,” Singh said. The RTI queries posed by the victims include — Why the accused have not been suspended from service, as they are being prosecuted for custodial murders? What departmental proceedings and disciplinary action, if any, were initiated against them? Why was there a delay of almost a decade in issuing chargesheets to the accused PAC personnel? Why were most of those indicted by the CB-CID report let off the hook? Hashimpura case: 615 RTI applications filed |
