Angry How effective the RTI act is ........ ?!

I am a research scientist working in VSSC, ISRO, Trivandrum, Kerala. I am one among the greedy Indians who wish to see India freed from corruption and ineptness in our life time. We were often informed that RTI is a boon in this regard. At the same time we hear that RTI is not so effective as expected to be. Recently there has been a news item which narrated how an RTI activist was forced to take the decision of ending his life due to persecution from Government officials. May I request somebody to throw light on these aspects.

Welcome to this portal having 31900+ members all over India dedicated to RTI. Pl visit success stories at http://www.rtiindia.org/forum/rti-co...y-lounge.htmll and this is just a trailer. There are large number of success stories which are not reported here. From a slum dweller or SC lady village head in remote Orissa or Bihar to scientists, IAS, IPS, IFS, High Court Judges, to Reliance Industries have used it. This is just a beginning and 3 year old law. It will take some time for it to be rooted and to change 61 year old mind frame of Indian bureacracy. It will change the way we are governed and it is the most citizen empowering legislation ever enacted since 1947. It is the duty of educated citizenry to use and to enable others to use it for the common good. Let us contribute. Some stray incidents of vested interests will always be there in such a big country. A silent revolution is taking place. Pl be part of it. We and our next generation will have better governance.

WE GET GOVT WE DESERVE. WHAT DO YOU PLAN FOR 2013?

    Dear Dr.Sekkar,
Now you are in contact with greedier and geediest section of our society who are trying to create at least waves to sweep away the corruption. We can create stronger waves when more likeminded cityzens join us. What went wrong with it so far was our leaders mistake of entrusting the responsibility for enforcement of the RTI Act to the very same people who were the delinquent or against whom the Act was enacted.

Despite inaction of the State Information Commission relaxing your next door, the RTI Act has defenitely created a scare in the minds of the government servants of Kerala. They know it very well that they cannot carry home on transfer or retirement, the dirty linen they had created during their service. They know that their cupboards could be opened some day. If it all they leave any skeleton it could be out some day. Naturally they will strive to hide lesser number of skeletons. Don't you think this is a good beginning ?

Thank you for your encouraging words. Some initial disappointments occurred to me when I read read the confirmation message came from Mr.RTI INDIA Administrator that this portal is not meant for campaigning against the corrupt. The prime theme for the requirement for an act like RTI is that it should function as a lethal arm against corruption. Perhaps I might not have understood what exactly was meant in his introductory message. Perhaps I may require help from people like you.

    Dear Col Kurup,
Thank you for your reply. Before I get started I wish to hear from experienced like you on certain doubts, of course sensible. I am a central government employee. Will my activism in RTI in any manner harm my job. yes I am afraid of leaking any information to the potentially dangerous official and a following persecution from the concerned official. In such events, how much helpful the army of good men will be in giving me protection.
    with regards
