30 complaints against cops NEW DELHI: The Delhi police have received 30 complaints so far this year against their own men forwarded by the Union Home Ministry. While they claim to have disposed of 27 petitions, departmental action has been taken against guilty officers in just one case. These facts are part of data provided by the police against a query under the Right to Information Act by an RTI activist, Dev Ashish Bhattacharya, seeking details on petitions against the force submitted in the Union Home Ministry in the past five years. In their previous reply to the questionnaire over a month ago, the police had said that no consolidated data on the number of such petitions or their status was available with them. In the fresh letter dated September 26, the Public Information Officer of the Vigilance Branch has given detailed information on the complaints received through the Home Ministry in the past five years and so far in the current year. According to the letter, the police received 44 complaints in 2006, 56 in 2005, 49 in 2004, 33 in 2003, and 50 in 2002. Till September this year they have received 30 petitions of which three are under process. One of the complaints received last year is also pending.
