BHUBANESWAR, Oct 22: The Right to Food campaign has alleged that Mr NAS Ansari, a right to information activist working in Puri district has been assaulted by a block level official who threatened that if he is slapped with a fine by the state information commission he would make Ansari’s life miserable.

Convenor of the Right to Food campaign organisation Mr Pradip Pradhan regretted that Ansari’s police complaint had been ignored and no action was taken on the errant official.

While Mr Ansari was on his way back from Ansara village of Gop Block to Konark recently, he was stopped by the officer who abused and assaulted him.

Mr Ansari is a leading activists of the state involved in spearheading campaign for effective implementation of RTI Act in Orissa. His constant endeavour has resulted in checking corruption and State Information Commission imposing fine up to Rs 25,000 to a government official in that area, observed Mr Pradhan.

The Right to Food campaign has launched a signature campaign to protest against the incident and has called upon all right thinking people to send petitions to the district collector and SP of Puri demanding immediate action on the errant government officer.
