Bangalore: The Karnataka State Women’s Commission has ruled against Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi in its recent order on the controversial case filed by Jayashree J.N., a Right to Information activist and wife of IAS officer M.N. Vijayakumar. Ms. Jayashree had contended that statements in a letter by the Chief Secretary to her husband were in violation of her fundamental right to speech and expression. The letter to Mr. Vijayakumar had stated: “…For all legal purposes husband and wife are to be considered as one unit unless dissociated from each other.” The commission has said that Ms. Jayashree has “made out a clear case of violation of her rights” and has recommended remedial action.
