Review grievance redressal mechanism, CIC to Prasar Bharati NEW DELHI: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has directed Prasar Bharati to strengthen its grievance redressal mechanism so that service complaints of its employees can be addressed within a reasonable period. The Commission's direction came on an application filed by an employee of the public broadcaster after its failure to provide information on his RTI plea filed one-year back. "The Director-General, Prasar Bharati, AIR is directed to review and strengthen the grievance redressal mechanism so that the complaints of the employees could be duly redressed within a reasonable time frame," Information Commissioner M M Ansari said in a recent order. Prakash Khemachandani, working with All India Radio as a translator-cum-announcer since 1995, had in his application sought information pertaining to delay in regularisation of his job. The Information Officer of Prasar Bharati in his response on April 30 this year had assured Khemachandani of providing him the details within a reasonable period of time. After the broadcaster failed to provide any information after three months, the employee decided to approach the CIC in August. Disposing the application, the Commission expressed dissatisfaction over Prasar Bharati's handling of the RTI application. "The attitude of the Prasar Bharati's officials smacks of malafide intention and harassment of the staff without any justifiable reasons. The responsible officials should be identified and they ought to be told of their lapses that tantamount to shirking of duties and responsibilities," the Commission said. The Commission has directed the public broadcaster to provide a suitable reply to the applicant within 15 days.
