Posh pvt school replaces municipal school in Mumbai

Eleven-year-old Arshad passes most of his time playing these days simply because he has no school to go to The one that he used to study in, a

Gujarati medium school shut down three years ago not leaving the boy with too many options but to dropout.
“Who will drop me to another school when my father goes to work? I will not go to another school,” says Arshad.

Arshad's school has been replaced by a swanky International Baccaluerate school catering mostly to children from affluent households. And how this came about might be a tale of possible fraud and corruption.

CNN-IBN is in possession of documents that show that a municipal school is supposed to exist, where this posh building now stands.

Activist Simpreet Singh filed an RTI application and dug out some astounding facts about the Walkaphadi Municipal School.

The Fazlani school, which stands at the spot now is run by the South Bombay Charitable trust that had got permission to use 24 rooms of the Walkaphadi Municipal School on a lease basis. But subsequently made a number of constructional changes, which it did not have any permission for.

Following an outcry, the BMC has finally decided to take some action against the trust.

“Yes BMC did give permission for an IB school, which should not have been done. We are looking into it. Municipal schools are for underprivileged, not meant for rich people,” says Additional Municipal Commissioner, BMC, Kishore Gajbhiye.

But the private school's owners are planning to go to court, over this issue. Meanwhile, it is a long wait for Arshad and other children like him for a school within their reach.

Same is the Story with the School in South Mumbai where a Charitable Trust was sold to one Corporate House and along with one Builder now planning to kick the old sylabus of SSC and minting crores by getting more IB Students.
Nobody is coming forward as every department is busy in themselves only and are not bothered about Hundreds of Students who would be suffering from kicking out.

This is an astounding fact and expect authorities to take earliest action in favour of under-privileged.
