Cancellation of passport application

I want to cancel my passport application which is in process? Reason for cancellation is too much time taken and i need passport urgently. Please explain me elaboratively to cancel passport application which is in process. Also, to apply for passport, are Tatkal and Urgent two different schemes? i have idea about Tatkal scheme but can you please elaborate on Urgent scheme, if there any? I am in urgent need of passport, please help.

Actually i recently got married and applied passport giving address of husbands native, as we were in urgent need of passport we decided to do it with help of agent. He asked us to fill address as my husbands address only even in the column where past one year address is needed. I gave my husbands domicile certificate and marriage certificate as documents but Now my police report has gone stating that i am staying on this address only for 2 months after marriage and passport status since 27th April 2009 is displayed as "Police report is not complete and case is under examination". So i thought for cancellation of this application and apply for new one in Tatkal....if i can change same application into Tatkal scheme then what should i do for that police report thing?...so that my application proceeds further. Please help me, i am in utmost need of passport.

I applied for passport in march 2009. It was the normal application of 1000/-. I live in hostel and that time i was not in hurry of getting the passport.

After 3-4 months a local police officer came to our campus to verify me and told me to sign me on a paper , I did.

But this is october ,2009 but it's still pending. "awaiting for the police verification". I also went to nearest police office there in Sultanpur. But nothing happened.

Now, i am in urgent need of passport, and i decided to apply an another urgent passport because i need it in 10 days.

Is there any penalty for applying a new application while another is awaiting the police verification??

and How to cancel that application?

or how to convert it to urgent application..?

Please help me, i am in urgent need of passport... i need it by 1st of november. Reply as soon as possible...

Best is that you visit your Regional Passport office where your passport application is being processed and check reason behind dealy in processing? You can change your status of application to TATKAL on visiting Regional Passport office...make sure you personally visit RPO for any information/change.

If you need it in 10 days then you can choose option of TATKAL within 8 days but first you have to visit RPO and find out what is the problem?

RPO guyz will tell you what to do further...they were co-operative in my case but it was Dehradun RPO.
