Private School under pruview of RTI

Hi,

I wanted to know if

Private aided and unaided schools come under the pruview of RTI Act.
If yes, then what is the information that one can seek and is a restriction as to who can seek the information under RTI.
Will it be possible for an individual(who may not be related to that institution in anyway) to demand a personal(the appellant) inspection of the records(financial, infrastructral) with the help of RTI ??

If the school receives funds from government, it is a public authority and you can file RTI application with the school.
If the school is unaided, it is not a public authority. In that case you can file RTI application with District Education officer and ask for information related to the school.

Kindly let me have the law if anybody asks for some information under RTI from any unaided private school (affiliated to CBSE or ICSE Board) through the Education Department.

As I understand the RTI Act does not apply on private institutions.

Kindly let me have the citations, if any.

Dear Abdul

Any private body, trust, university,insurance co, etc., are being associated, controlled or being permitted/supervised under a Govt. organ/Govt. body/Govt. Ministry.
The respective govt. dept whichever is responsible for the private bodies, can be contacted for the information.

Applicability of RTI Act on private schools i.e. schools not recieving any grant from any government agency. Is there any circular/notification/court judgement clarifying this issue ?
