JODHPUR, India: People can access required information online under the right to information act from 2007, Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah said on Saturday. Postal and information technology departments are considering various suggestions regarding the mode of payment for accessing information under the act, he told reporters here. A final decision is yet to be taken on the appropriate mode of payment, Habibullah said. The Commission has incorporated several suggestions to strengthen the act in its report which will be tabled in Parliament soon, he said. The CIC said all villages and gram panchayats will be connected with computer networking and people can use online facilities from villages also. The CIC was told to submit a report on implementation of the act which came into force on 2005 along with suggestions to strengthen it, Habibullah said. The report is now ready and it will be tabled in Parliament soon, he said. The Commission has expressed satisfaction over the implementation of the act, Habibullah said adding there is need to speedily computerise government departments to enable people to get required information sitting at homes.
