You can try filing RTI application with the sub-registrar's office referring to the will and asking for its copy. For details on how to draft and file an RTI application, please go through 'All About RTI' links on the homepage.
Hi,
I need help to know that from where can i get a copy of the will done by my Grandfather. My GrandFather did a will in my fathers name. Now i don't have any copy of that and my father and grandfather both have passed away.
Can i RTI the Sub-Registrar and get a copy of the wll deed?
What documents would i need to get a copy of that will deed?
Under which departments jurisdiction does this fall?
Thanks much in advance.
Regards,
Robin

Only if it was registered in the first place. Its not necessary to register a will in India for it to be valid. And if it was, do you know where? Documents transferring immovable property need to be registered at the closest (or designated) sub-registrar's office. I believe wills can be registered anywhere in the state. Do you know if the will was witnessed/attested?
Dept of Registration and Stamp Duty. You can file an RTI application, but a normal request for searching a will might be easier and faster. What documents would i need to get a copy of that will deed?

Many a time will is deposired at District Registrar office also. Will copies are not given to all until the death of the executor. If a person wants to have a copy of it then he must also produce a copy of certificate of Death.
As rightly pointed by someguy, it is very difficult to trace where it was registered. But there is a way. Apply an RTI to Inspector General of Registration asking for the date and document number of Will if any Registered by --------- in all Sub Registrar and District Registrar of the sate.
the Sub-Registrar will demand the specific date of deed done also
deed registration number, you must know these things.
Hi, Robin
You can get your Grandfather's will copy from the Sub-Registrar's office. You should apply just an application with non judicial stamp aprox Rs. 2.00 in which you have to mention your Grandfather's name, address and if possible the will copy no., date of will. then give it in the office of Sub Registrar. You also have to pay some deposit amout i.e. cost of copy with the application to Sub-Registrar.
After a week if Sub-Registrar will fail to provide a copy of your grandfather's will to you, You would go through RTI.
In which area your Grandfather was belong to, that Sub-Registrar has jurisdiction. Please conform in the office of Sub-Registrar that such particular area has been under which sub registrar ? and then procide with above mention procidure......
Regards.
Thanks for all your response. I don't know the will no nor the date.... Also, i would have to find out which Sub-Registrar jurisdiction does it fall in??? I think thats not a tough job.... The major problem is that i don't know the will no and the date.... ? Can i apply with the Inspector of Registrars without that information.
I think that has been answered in post # 4 above.
Robine, you can get the will no. and date by Sub-Registrar's register. You can get it by searching the register year wise. before searching the register you should apply RTI application to Sub-Registrar with prescribed fees.
you can see all records in sub registrar office after applying rti application.
you can mention in rti application to see the records.
