Need information on getting income tax refund

Hi,

I am new to RTI.Can you suggest me the way to file an RTI for getting my incoem tax refunded.

I filed my returns in Bangalore.I am not able to find the CPIO address for Bangalore in income tax website.

If you can give me this address it will be of great help.

You can use RTI to get your Income Tax refund.
Details of CPIO's in the Income Tax Department in Karnataka are given at:

http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in./CC...1200763553.doc

(use only IE for opening this page...it does not work with other browsers)

You will have to identify the correct PIO dpending on your ward/circle, etc.

Thanks for the reply.My ward number is ITO, Salary Ward-14(1) / 312-W-1.

I am not sure how to locate the correct CPIO address in the document given.

Is there any common address to where RTI's of any ward can be sent ?

The following page will help you getting the relevant CIT (Commissioner of Income Tax) for your ward:

Know your assessing officer - Income Tax Department - Karnataka & Goa Region

The CPIO for your range is generally the CIT for that area.

In your case (I think it should be Bangalore V), you can find out the CIT address at:

From the other link that u gave i located the following address

Thanks for the reply.From the link that u gave me i was able to locate my assessing officer which is ITO, Salary Ward-14(1) / 312-W-1.

In the other link that you have provided there are many addresses of commisioner of incoem tax.

How do i know which address should i send my RTI to ?

That is correct.
Address the application to the CPIO and not by name, just in case the person has been transferred.
Clearly mention your ward/circle in the application as well as you PAN number and even if the PIO is not the correct one, the application will be forwarded to the correct PIO.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.I sent a mail stating that i have to get a refund from income tax and wanted to know when i will be getting the refund.

i received the following reply

kindly send the copy of the acknowledgement for having filed the return of income for the yer refund due, addressed to the Income-tax Officer(GC), C.R.Buildings, Queen's Road, Bangalore - 01ITO(PR).

Again i asked whether i have to file a RTI seeking information on the income tax transfer.They said it is not required and just sending a request to Income Tax officer will be enough.

Will that be enough to get the status of the refund ?

Nice to know that Income Tax Dept., Bangalore, replied to you so quickly.

Filing (or not filing) a RTI application is your choice.
You can also do it in the normal course and procedure.


However, a RTI application has to be replied in 30 days time otherwise the PIO is liable for penalty at the rate of Rs 250.00 per day of delay, subject to a maximum of Rs 25,000.00, deducted from his personal salary.
