RTI, NREGA going on promotion of good governance

Dimapur, August 8 (MExN): Development Association of Nagaland (DAN), the official organ of the Catholic Church for charitable, social and development activities in Nagaland organized two days orientation program on RTI and NREGA on August 3 and 4, 2009 at its office conference hall.
Rev. Dr. Ponshing, State Information Commissioner for RTI and Hilo Semp, DRDA project Director for NREGA facilitated the program. The program was organized as part of a new project being implemented at 30 selected villages under Peren district of Nagaland aiming at socio-economic empowerment of the people and promotion of good governance. The program was attended by the staff of the organization.

The objective of the program was to orient the staff with a proper understanding of RTI act and its applicability in the context of Nagaland. During the session Rev. Dr. Ponshing, State Information Commissioner elaborated on the scope of the act and pointed out clearly how it can be used as a powerful instrument towards bringing out more transparency, honesty and accountability/ open government and good governance.

David, Project Coordinator, DAN in a press release said that the second day program was facilitated by Hilo Semp, Director DRDA. During the session he highlighted about the main features of the NRGA scheme being implemented in the country and about the key functionaries, basic components, social audit, monitoring, and vigilance of NREGA.
