Revenue wing gets highest number of RTI applications

Hyderabad
Aug. 10: The revenue department is the most sought-after wing of the government if one has to go by the questions it had to answer from the citizens.

For the third consecutive year, the department has topped the chart with 1,143 appellants submitting petitions at the Andhra Pradesh State Information Commission (APSIC) under the RTI Act. According to statistics available with the APSIC, the major chunk of appellants who sought information from the revenue department are from the city.

The municipal administration and urban development department comes a distant second with 530 cases.

“The maximum number of pending appeals are with the revenue department. Add to that the incomplete information provided by the department which forces appellants to file a second appeal at the APSIC,” said Mr R. Dileep Reddy, the state information commissioner.

The third in the category is the state education department. In all, 481 applications have been filed to extract information from the department. The total number of applications filed under the RTI Act in the state in 2008 stood at 59,664.
