    National Convention on
Right to Information and National Rural Employment Guarantee

    9-10 September, 2009 Lucknow

RTI and NREGA had generated tremendous hope among the people of this country. Some things have definitely changed for the better. But by and large people feel dissatisfied with the implementation of these two Acts. The initial enthusiasm is now giving room to some disillusionment. People are worried whether the spirit of these two Acts will meet the same fate and so many other wonderful laws and schemes in this country.

A two day convention is being organized to take stock of the present status of implementation of these two Acts as well as to discuss ways of making intervention so that common people may benefit from them more than they are presently able to.

Aruna Roy ji will participate on 10th September in this convention.

    Schedule:

9th September, First Session: 12 noon to 2 pm and Second Session: 3 pm to 6 pm; Issues to be presented: Problems faced at the level of PIOs and First Appellete Authority, Implementation of Section 4(1)b of the RTI Act, Problems faced at Information Commission, Appointment of Commissioners, Humiliation of applicants at the hands of Information Commissioners, Government’s attempt to tamper with the Act, Problems faced by the Information Commission.

10th September, First Session: 10 am to 12 noon: concluding session on RTI; Second Session: 2 pm to 5 pm: NREGA

Organized by National Alliance of People’s Movements and National Campaign for People’s Right to Information
