    Dear Bharadwaj,

HDFC being a private bank do not come under the perview of RTI act. If your bank is a nationalised bank you can file a RTI application

IF THERE IS NO HOPE WE WILL INVENT IT

You can always seek details from Customer Care department of the Bank in writing/ by email and in case you do not get response immediately, file a case of deficient services against the Bank before Consumer Court.

You must take immediate action. I have come of some cases where the cheques have been stolen and paid into fake accounts opened in the name of the payee.

U can directly write to branch head with copy to Nodal Officer of Bank's HO for the details. U can ask for photocopies of both sides of paid cheques held by bank and other details of payment of cheques, which will show where that amount is credited. U can then approach the collecting bank for details of the account. If collecting bank is a public sector bank you can use RTI also. Pl visit website of HDFC Bank for address under customer care or contact us icons.

HDFC Bank being private bank does not fall under RTI Act directly. However U can get its information by visiting http://www.rtiindia.org/forum/blogs/...under-rti.html

If the matter is not settled despite contacting bank as above, you can file complaint with banking ombudsman of your state by visiting website of RBI www.rbi.org.in. It is cost effective and fast as compared to consumer courts. U may also refer for step by step guidance for bank problems
