BMC Non action on illegal slums

    Hi ,
Just joined the RTI forum and I think it is wonderful.
I stay in central mumbai at wadala e. Despite several complaints from residents to the F ward of BMC there has been zero action taken on removing illegal slums that have been developing on footpaths ( even on the wadala bridge ).Is it possible for me to use RTI to get BMC into action ?
If yes then how do i go about it ?

Welcome to RTI India - Complete Online Community Portal for Right to Information.

Yes, you can very much use RTI for this purpose.

The appropriate Public Authority is MCGM. You can address your application to Assistant Engineer (buildings) at 96, Bhau Daji Lad Road, Matunga, Mumbai 19 (For F- North) or at 21, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, Parel Mumbai 12 (For F- South).

You may ask them for designaion of person/s responsible for stopping encroachment on roads, his inspection report, his frequency of inspection, action taken by him to clear the encroachment, cost incurred on clearing encroachment, etc.

You may attach photographs of the slums. Please be careful about drafting application, as 'reason for inaction' asked in your application is likely to be labelled 'not information', and application is likely to be rejected. Please go thru RTI Guide.

You may attach a copy of a recent GR issued by Govt of Maharashtra, regarding implimentation of RTI Act, available here. This document (in Marathi) will convince the MCGM authorities that you are serious about this business.
