housing society on collectors land is legal

Dear Sir,

I am planning to buy 1 BHK flat in asmita Jyoti housing society -malad(w) mumbai which is constructed on collectors land ...i need to understand whether i should the flat or not...is it legal & official ...and what document i need to check before buying....the ownership of the property will be freehold or not.

please let me know the details
