Corruption has become a way of life: Vahanvati Mumbai (PTI): Observing that corruption has become a way of life, Solicitor General of India Goolam Vahanvati said here on Saturday that laws like Right To Information Act "is the ray of hope" to fight the menace. Delivering Bansari Sheth Memorial Lecture organised by Asiatic Society of Mumbai, Vahanvati said, "Accepting a bribe has become a culture, a way of life. We are no longer shocked by corruption." But the ray of hope in this situation could be laws like Right To Information Act and institutions like Central Vigilance Commission. RTI has brought about a great deal of transparency and accountability in the government's functioning, he said. But most important weapon against corruption would be "a public boycott" of corrupt officials, Vahanvati said. Vahanvati said that one of the factors that led to this situation was the socialist system that the country adopted post-Independence, which led to administrative inefficiency and the public need to bribe to get work done. Speaking on the same topic, former Supreme Court judge Justice Sujata Manohar said that corruption was universal, but "you must have a system that curbs the corruption". She referred to recent murder of British teenager in Goa and controversy related to her autopsy report. "What action we took against those who filed the first autopsy report which found nothing wrong?" she asked. "Punitive action must be taken speedily," she said, insisting that laws would be ineffective if they are not enforced. As Reported in the Hindu |

If society is not position to stop corruption, at least retirement age in Govt must be reduced to 50 so that we may provide chance for corruption to every indian citizen. No one will complain for corruption after indulging himself in corruption. |

Dear Mr.SNGupta, How about fixing rates for each corrupt act ? Or Call for Tender on BOT basis ? You may not be able to accommodate all by reducing the retirement age to 50. Or add value to each VIPs recommendation allotting value as per the amount he has contributted to the Party fund? There are so many solutions. Buit I prefer sacking the guilty with no mercy. |

Your post, as usual, is not clear. Are you under any illusion that every citizen of this country is employed only by GOI?
