RTI - Property Card and Land Records for Ancestoral Property
My family is in dispute for some ancestoral property in Mumbai. The property in dispute consists of a plot of land with a building constructed on it. Unfortunately, the property card title and other documents are being held back by one of the senior family members. I have the Cadastral Survey number and know which division of mumbai the property is registered in.
What would be the procedure using the RTI Act to find out:
-The owners of the land over the past 30 years ; The list of person in whose name the receipts of land revenue / property taxes were issues in last 30 years ; details of mutation (resolution of disupte and transfer of land) in last 30 years
Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated - nh99

Re: RTI - Property Card and Land Records for Ancestoral Property
The easiest way would b to hire a local advocate and ask him to carry out search in govt offices and prepare history of the property. They do it for nearly 4 to 5000 per report for banks.
WE GET GOVT WE DESERVE. WHAT DO YOU PLAN FOR 2013?

Re: RTI - Property Card and Land Records for Ancestoral Property
Have you tried the city survey office to request a certified copy of the property card? You can usually get it in a day or so without recourse to RTI. You also need to do a property search at all applicable local offices of sub-registrars of documents to access all previous registered sale/lease deeds.
As jps50 said, getting a local Advocate to do a title search is perhaps the best bet. This will usually include searches at city survey and sub-registrar's offices.
