CII to hold sessions on RTI Act

Bhopal, Jan 18: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as a part of its Integrity India Campaign, which aims to create a national level vision and dialogue on the issues of integrity, probity, transparency, accountability and ethics in all facets of our national endeavour, is organising a series of awareness sessions on Right To Information (RTI) Act on 5, 6 and 7 February at Indore, Bhopal and Katni respectively.

The right to information in its current form is a result of popular struggle. In a democratic society, sometimes, it takes time for new ideas to take firm root. This is a part of the learning curve any legislation has to undergo. There is a need to evolve a consensus to facilitate the effective exercise of the right to information by the needy, by those who are directly affected by the information. We must also realize that laws, over a period of time, adapt themselves to changing realities as societal perceptions change and most importantly, Right to Information Act is not a substitute for good governance, it has to support and aid the process of good governance.

Prabhat Kumar, Former Cabinet Secretary of the Union Government and President, IC Centre for Governance, New Delhi will be the speaker for these sessions.

In Bhopal this session is scheduled on Tuesday, 6 February 2007 from 1800 Hrs at Ravindra Bhavan, Polytechnic Circle, Shamla Hills, Bhopal. A mix of Industry, Government, Civil Society, NGOs, Academia and Media will constitute the audience for the session.
