Re: RTI Application to Income Tax CPIO at KOLKATA

Thank you all for answering my query. Could you confirm whether the ITO is a designated CPIO for RTI purpose in Income Tax offices? If one searches the WEBSITE of Incometax -- CPIO are all of CIT ranks and no ITO is mentioned there in the website as of date as the CPIO. Could anyone inform from where I can confirm that ITO is the CPIO and not the CIT as mentioned by the Income Tax Deptt. in their website. Can someone please give me the details of any amendment if made in the Act by which a ITO has become a CPIO instead of the CIT. If so, Why the same is not updated by the Income Tax Department in their website???? It shows only CIT as the CPIO and CCIT as the Appeals Officer. Please furnish me some documented information in this regard to clear the confusion. In RTI Act an application made to any CPIO is to be sent to the concerned CPIO within 5 days. But if a ITO is not the CPIO in first place, he is not bound by the law to transfer the application to a CPIO. I await the answer.
