A panel discussion is being jointly organised by the Commonwealth Policy Studies Unit (CPSU) and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) on 'Pushing for Transparency in Governance: Advocating for the Right to Information in India' on February 2nd, 2007 at the Indian Council for Social Science Research, New Delhi from 10 am to 1:30 pm (followed by lunch). The purpose of this panel is to share the successful advocacy experiences and explore the challenges faced by a diverse group of RTI advocates including researchers, activists and government officials who are all utilizing the Right to Information Act (2005) in various contexts in India. The speakers will include: Nida Kirmani, CPSU and the University of Manchester Shailesh Gandhi, the convener of the NCPRI Rakesh Ranjan, Sandhan Anjali Bhardwaj, founder Satark Nagrik Sangathan Rajan Kashyap, Punjab Information Commissioner The panelists' presentations will be followed by a half hour discussion moderated by CHRI's Sohini Paul, which will involve both the panelists and audience members.
