hi,
a new township is being built at lavasa near
poona. a magnificient road is built from poona to lavasa exclucively for this project. may be 70 kms. at govt cost. the entire area could have been used as a reservoir for storage of water with a few dams around. even pumping of water from a joining catchment area to this proposed dam site will be feasible.the entire site could have been considered for storage of scarce water. such sites will be very few and it appears a wonderful opportunity has been lost, for the required water storage facility for poona.
the entry to the project is restricted with a main gate.the hills around are definitely public property. how can any one restrict entry to the site.many questions have to be answered. may be, even water pipelines are provided from poona to this site at government cost. the entire project smacks of greed by a few influential people for enhancing their own wealth.
this is a question of public assets being used for private profits.
the project has to be studied carefully and this small writeup should be sufficient for adding relevant details from those who know about this project. kindly circulate this writeup to all members and then we may decide how to use rti in this case to get at the truth.
if suggestions of this type are carefully get analysed by rti group many irregularties can be exposed.may be this is a new approach and if a beginning is made in this direction i will be very happy.
a few sample questions are given below.
1) who are the beneficiaries of this project?
2) how much land is owned by the developers and who owns the hills?
2) who has paid for the construction of road from poona?
3) who has paid for water pipe line if this line is laid from poona.
4) in view of water shortage in poona who has approved this line and how fast?
5) can entry to lavasa be restricted when public property like hills are involved?
6) who has approved this projest without considering it's potential for storage of water?
this may be a new approach but an opportunity for all members to get involved and arrive at the truth by brain storming technique. i am sure many more studies will follow based on this
approach
