In our on-going efforts to take RTI to the grassroots, Sundargarh Education Society & CYSD-DRC jointly organised a district level workshop on 9th December, 2009 primarily to involve the women groups and activists in taking up RTI as an effective tool in gender related issues. Participants came from a wide range comprising women lawyers, Panchayat leaders, SHG Federations, Anganwadi Workers, CSOs and citizen forums. Findings from two rural surveys done in 2 Blocks of Sundargarh were presented, which showed the level of awareness and use of RTI in villages. After long deliberations a district level RTI Watch Forum was formed comprising 16 women and 8 men.
Now we have to take the process ahead, consolidating the mechanism at all levels, identifying issues affecting women and girls, building capacity of activists and showing results through RTI application. We need help from all quarters for networking and advocacy at different levels.
So it is at the right time I have come across this forum (RTI India).
