The Central Infomation Commission is organising a National Convention this year around Oct-Nov having a theme “Democracy & RTI in South Asia.”. Actual date of this convention hangs on availability of venue (Vigyan Bhaban). The original proposed date is likely to be shifted on to 1st of November. This time CIC has roped in Ministry of External Affairs for this convention. The proposed dates are either 10-12 Oct or 1st of November. Many foreign speakers and dignitaries are expected to be invited to this convention. With this CIC has also scrapped the proposed Zonal Conference shceduled to be held during this year due to non-interest from State Info Commissioners. Full text of the meeting is available here. http://cic.gov.in/CIC-Minutes/Minutes06052008.pdf |

I still could not digest the jurisdiction and authority of the CIC to hold such convention. Such self assumed roles of the CIC misguide common men to mistake the Central Information Commission as the head of all State Information Commissions. This is more so when there is no unity of agrement between the CIC iand State Information Commissions(iDisagreement of CIC in nterpretation of fucidiary relationship of Examiner in valued answer sheets case ordered by SIC, Karnataka). |

I am perturbed with the Time and Toll it will consume and it's effect on the never ending back log of pending cases with CIC. As the state commissions are also brought into this event that would also put more pressure on their backlog of cases too. And what is there to be gained from these functions? ![]() Organising such jamborees should not be done by the Commission but by the DoPT (The Nodal Agency) if at all they are to be organised. Btw Do we have any such state level fetes organised by State Info Commissions any where? Last edited by sidmis; 08-13-2008 at 01:55 PM. |

Not to my knowledge. We should at least make waves proclaiming that the CIC has no such role or jurisdiction. Only an "INFORMATION COMMISSION OF INDIA" if constituted can hold such jamboree. |

CIC could not give satisfactory output even after 3 years. All the appellants have been running pillar to post to obtain info. ;But all in vain . Instead of South Asia , the CIC must rectify/ improve the distressing situation in India. CIC must care Indian citizens only. South Asia can be cared by PM/ Mr Bush/ Sonia Gandhi etc. When CIC will have zero pendency ; South Asia can be helped then only. Otherwise no use of discussing about other countries. At present , only 2 ICs are delivering satisfactorily. Appellants are getting info after 30 months ;& by that time , the info becomes quite useless. |

It is a crime to indulge in such waste of public fund. When the CIC has absolutely no jurisdiction over the SICs and the SIC refused to abide by the orders of the CIC what is the meaning of a convention ? Whatis its aim ? |

I find the theme of this convention bit ironic. "Ramifications for Good Governance"when the SICs & CIC themselves are marred with poor governance. Sheer Waste of time & money. |

Time has come to review the provisions of the ACt. The RTI activist and Association are doing a lot for RTi but what the Govt is doing. The Govt has slept after making the act.i think the Govt think the Act as unwanted thing. As far as me is concerned It is most papulor Act of the Indian History. I think the govt should review it every six months otherwise in the comming times it Wii loose its charm. |
