RTI activists in the city will now have a ready-reckoner in the form of an e-portal at their disposal. The website, RTI Tools, designed by city-based civic activist Rishi Aggarwaal, was launched by RTI activist Shailesh Gandhi on May 31.

Aggarwaal said the site, which is a first-of-its-kind effort in the country, is meant to facilitate the flow of information on responses to RTI applications.

“Many RTI applicants work hard at finding information on crucial public matters. However, they are able to share that information only with a limited number of people.

The media tends to cover only the notable RTI applications and responses.”

The site will allow people to upload the initial application to a public authority and the response it received.

“Often, two people, residing close to each other, yet unaware of each other’s activities, end up filing an RTI application for the same purpose. Moreover, a few learn about the response on an RTI application as there are no means to disseminate the information widely.”

The site developers are working on how to manage voluminous responses. Aggarwaal said excerpts of the information can be uploaded in the meanwhile.

The site allows people to comment on individual applications and responses to facilitate discussion that could guide the future course of action.

The link given in the newspaper article leads to a site that deal with a different RTI i.e Response To Intervention. That is related to school teaching. The link given by SIDMIS appears to the correct one. Thanks for the good work of putting the record straight.
