    Default RTI Act to Banks

    Hi,

Does the Public Banks come under the RTI Act.
In general we are not finding any information of the PIO or any other
    details in the banks.
Hence please reveal me whether the Public banks come under the applicability of RTI act.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Venkata Ramakrishna

The psu banks are very much under the ambit of RTI Act. The details of the PIOs are normally displayed in their web-sites. At the level of individual branches, there may not be any display about the details of these PIOs, since, invariably, they are all functioning from their local/zonal/regional administrative offices.

Ganpat, would you care to elaborate on the above ?

What if the BM is the designated APIO at the Branch level ? Is he/she exempted from displayting the RTI Details ?

Sidharth, saw your post just now, as I was out of station for two days. Not all banks have designated their branch managers as APIOs. In many PSU banks, they have not adopted the concept of APIOs at branch levels. They have only designated only PIOs at zonal/regional levels and a CPIO at their head office.

Yeah. You are absolutely right. To top it, in those banks where the Branch managers are the designated APIOS, they don't even aware of it. You will not find any sign board there. The biggest culprit here is the SBI and it's group Banks.

In certain other banks, they have both SPIOs & CPIOs in the same bank. e.g. Dena Bank. I find it insane.

Somehow I have a feeling that the Banking PAs are very reluctant to implement RTI act.
