CIC pulls up Isro on defence info stand as reported BY SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT Howrah.Org June 9: NEW DELHI The Central Information Commission pulled up the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) for taking a stand that activities of the defence ministry were not public activity, and asked it to reveal the details asked for by an RTI applicant. Chief information commissioner Wajahat Habibullah asked, "The stand taken in the hearing by respondents (Isro) that matters concerning the ministry of defence do not concern public activity is absurd. Are we to infer thereby that in the view of the department of space, all that the ministry of defence is occupied with is private activity?" The commission directed the Indian Space Research Organisation to re-examine the plea of Delhi resident Harish V. Shankar, seeking information on 17 counts pertaining to the relationship between Semiconductor Complex Ltd (SCL) and director-general married accommodation project (DGMAP). To Mr Shankar’s queries, the department of space had denied the details, citing exemptions under the Right to Information Act and taking a stand that the information sought had no relationship to any public activity or interest.
