Unanswered: How to identify the correct PIO for a TN rural house property record question?

How would one go about finding out who the relevant PIO is, to ask for the name under which is registered, a small house property in a village in Sivaganga District, Tamil Nadu? All that is known is the address, and a common ancestor who must have been titleholder some decades ago.

Is this even feasible ... I don't think there are any village-level PIOs? Does it make any sense to direct a query of this nature to a relatively senior official, like the Revenue Secretary of the state govt? Does anyone have any experience of this kind? Thanks. Best, -Murgie

By "Registered" do you mean for land revenue or building tax ? If it is land revenue, address the application to the "PIO, Taluk Office" and in the case of building tax addres it to the "PIO of Panchayat". Either they themselve are likely to reply or may transfer it to the correct PIO.

Thanks. Just noticed also that the GUIDE section has an article by jps50 on just this topic. He suggests in the worst case addressing it to PIO of Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, and relying on him to forward it to the right PIO. Best, -Murgie

U can also send to PIO of District Collector Office or Tahsildar/Mamlatdar/Sub-divisional revenue office. In Gujarat all Village Talatis [village revenue officer] are PIO of Talatis Office. Give whatever info you have of the plot to enable them to trace info required by you. I have also posted details of Tamilnadu RTI rules in my blog/guide section. Please peruse the same. Proforma is also given. U can ask query as under:
Pl provide me Village extracts 7-12, 8A, 6, & 2 pertaining to agriculture land, building and open plots owned as on 31-5-2008 at or near ________village in ________taluka_______dist in the name of Shri______________.
Pl do mention that you are heir in strainght line of Shri_______________, if U are asking for info of property owned by your forefathers, otherwise third party clause will be applied.

murgie,

The details of all PIO's in the Registration Department in Tamil Nadu (district wise) are available here:

PROCEEDINGS OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF REGISTRATION CHENNAI - 600 028

The registration department should have the information about ownership.
