Info panel summons top cop

July 3: Thee Andhra Pradesh information commission has issued summons to the city commissioner of police, Mr B. Prasada Rao, for not furnishing details sought by the former corporator, Mr Amjadullah Khan, under the Right to Information Act, 2005.

The commissioner has either to be present in person or authorise a representative to appear for him.
Mr Khan had sought information relating to the total number of absconders among people booked for criminal offences and data on pending court warrants.

In another set of questions, he also wanted to know the criteria used by the police to designate offenders as rowdy sheeters.
In the first reply issued by the police commissioner’s office, the department has stated that the names of 2,642 persons featured in the absconders’ list and non-bailable warrants against them were pending.

In reply to another question, the department stated that the warrants could not be executed as the accused were her not "available" at the given address or have "changed" their place of stay.

The second set of questions posed by Mr Khan has also elicited incomplete information from the department.
