As reported in ZeeNews.com CRPF must disclose info on alleged gender discrimination` New Delhi, July 06: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has rapped the CRPF, which is exempted under RTI, for repeatedly posting a lady officer in a 'male battalion' and said that it amounts to violation of human rights. The central agency issued a direction asking the CRPF to explain why it took such a decision. The Commission's direction came on a petition filed by the officer of the para-military force alleging that she was being repeatedly transferred and posted in 'male battalion'. She also alleged that the department refused to divulge the reason behind such move which amounts to gender discrimination and human rights violations. The petitioner, Dr Asha Singh, Chief Medical Officer with the CRPF, contended that she was being treated "unfairly" by the force which repeatedly posted her in a "non-family male battalion" as the only lady officer without any medical infrastructure laid down as per the norms. Singh alleged that she was being harassed at the hands of male officers and was denied salary for three months during medical illness without assigning any reasons. The Commission after hearing her contention asked the CRPF to disclose the reasons behind alleged discriminatory treatment. "This issue falls squarely within the definition of human rights," the commission said, adding information pertaining to human rights violation warrant providing of information. CRPF, however, refuted the allegations and said: "The contention that she was a victim of gender discrimination was being presented as an excuse for a matter which is purely administrative".
