Hello Preet, The answer is Both Yes & NO. In some states attaching proof of Identity is mandatory. So you have to attach your identity related documents. For Central Public Authorities attaching Proof of Identity is not mandatory since there's no prescribed form. So you can apply without attaching any Proof of your identity at the time of applying to a Central Public Authority. But the PIO may ask for identity related documents at a later date and which you have to supply. So to be on a safe side attach your proof of Identity, it will do no harm and may speed up the process. Sidharth |

As per Section 1 of the RTI Act, the right to seek information is given only to the citizen of India. Hence, the PIO asking for Nationality proof is justified. |
