kolkata police attrocities

Our next door neighbour informed us that their house maid (age 15 years)was arrested by police & kept in lock up for three months because one of her friends had eloped with a muslim guy inspite of being hindu.

I would k=like to know ow to proceed against the police for this injustice as this girl was not at all responsible for her friends deed.

You need to consult an advocate who is conversant with human right violations.

Ganpat is right this is a case of human rights violation and needs to be reported to the National Human Rights Commission. You can seek the details of records of her detention from the police authorities using the RTI Act and this can be used as an evidence before the NHRC.

In a matter like this, I really doubt if any records will be available at all. The minor would have been kept in illegal custody(in the station's lock up) and in all probabilities would not have been produced before a magistrate and no formal FIR would have been registered. It is all done under the guise of questioning.

Though the details of that girl's detention may not be available. An RTI application can be filed seeking the day to day progress of the original case regarding the eloping of a girl with a boy. Police at some time may come out with some information which can be used as an evidence in the NHRC.
