Need Help: passport is getting dealyed

Hi,

I have applied for a new passport for my son who is 4 yrs old on 26th June 2008 in hyderabad and in the online status of the hyderabad url it said that passport will be despatched by 15th july (till date i did not get my passport), after that i went to the passport office in hyderabad to inquire about the status, the person gave me the passport booklet number and said that it will take another 10-15 days to despatch the passport.

now my question is when does one get the passport booklet number known
1) Immediately After submitting the application form
2) or After police verification the passport booklet number is allocated.

Also I would like to know if there is any police verification done for a my kid who is 4 yrs old.

Note : Why is it that the help line numbers provided by the Regional Passport office no one attends the calls , what can I do about it.

hi ravinder,

under normal course the passport booklet no. is only issued aftrer the police verification and all the formalities are completed. but at times in cases of tatkal application the passport booklet is issued even before the police verification.

even i applied for passport of my 6 months old son and the police verification in his case was suppose to be waived. but out of corrupt practice some of their officer initiated/recommended the police inquiry. I have filed an RTI application in this regard.

and finally to your poll option. I personally feel the role of media is only hopeless and i feel it wont prove any good either go to print media or to any tv channel.

Based on your reply i am assuming that, since i got the passport booklet number so there wont be any police verification, and the next step is only to send the passport by post.

I have submitted my sons passport thru normal proces, and did not use the tatkal scheme.

usually in case of minors the police verification is waived. also since you have been alloted the passport booklet no. there are very low chances of police verification here after.

Thank you Abhishek Goyal, that was very much indeed relief for me.

So the next step for the passport office guys is actually to send the passport via post right, so in that case how many days they will take to post it, any idea.

Even though police verification is waived off for the minor passport, but in my sons case police verification has been done recently, but i was suprised when the online status says that "Passport has been granted and is expected to be despatched by 30-07-2008. Subject to all documents being in order." and from the other side the police verification was done.

Now my question is when will i get my sons passport , that is after the police sends the verification report or before that.

I would like to know what are the different online status once a person submits a passport application (assuming it is new), I know a few which i am listing it and add incase if you know more than that.

1) Passport will be despatched by xx/xx/xxxx subject to documents being in order
2) Sent for police verification
3) Waiting for police Report
4) Got police report
5) Passport has been granted and is expected to be despatched by xx/xx/xxxx subject to documents being in order.
6) Passport has been despatched on xx/xx/xxxx by speed post via number xxxxxxx.

Is this the correct status or not, pl add the correct sequence.
