New delhi The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) reportedly gave Rs 75 lakh to Railways from MPLAD scheme for the construction of a foot overbridge on the basis of just “a site plan on an A-4 size paper” without demanding details of the project.
The case came before the Central Information Commission after an RTI applicant sought details about the cheque of Rs 75 lakh given by the MCD to the Railways for the foot overbridge along with related papers, including the drawing and the location of the foot overbridge.

When appellant Narender Prasad could not get the information from the MCD, he approached the CIC.

“It appears that no attempt has been made to suppress information but MCD officers are not able to reconcile themselves that Rs 75 lakh payment could have been made without any papers or project report,” Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi said. —PTI
