Need Help: Regarding Passport

Hi,

I have filed Passport for my wife & mother through Passport Agent and i got a receipt dated 6th Jun'08. While trying to check the online status with my file no, it throws some error as such i didn't file. I have checked with local police station and they said they haven't received any such documents from Passport Office. I have filed Passport in Chennai Region.

I need to know the status of my wife & mother. My question is, can i able to check the status through RTI act?

IF yes, please let me know what is the procedure? To whom i need to submit file under RTI act?

I welcome incase of other suggestion to check the status. Shortly i am leaving abroad and i need to process visa for my mother & wife.

Your help would be appreciated.

For filing a RTI application you will need to submit the proof. First you should ensure that your receipt is not bogus.

Just try to enter the file number before and after your file no. to find out if the office actually issued that series on that day.

Thanks for your reply. I am having receipt from Passport authority. I feel the receipts are geniune. I have tried to enter the previous number & next number, again it throws the same error.

I am attaching the receipts of my mother & my wife and with your observation, can you give your suggestions?

I found that file No. from A03065 to A03072 are not showing any status.

You should file a RTI application to your passport office along with copy of your receipt. You may add the following questions.

1. Why my file number is not updated in your application data base?
2. What is the present status of my application.
3. Has the police verification cleared ?
4. When I am likely get my passport ?

And any other questions you feel suitable.

Thanks for your feedback. Can you describe what is the procedure for having application under RTI act? i.e

1. Format of application
2. Fees if any
3. To whom it has to be addressed
4. The mode of sending application (personal, post etc)

1. A sample of passport questionnaire is given at the link below. Please edit the content as per your requirements.You will need acrobat reader to open that pdf file.

2. Fees : You should attach a Bank Draft or an Indian Postal Order (IPO) for Rs. 10 (ten only) to your application. which should be drawn in favour of Regional Passport Office, payable at Chennai. You can get IPO from your nearest post office. An IPO of Rs. 10 will cost you Rs. 11 only.

3. Your application should be addressed to the following:

Hi Dinesh,

Many thanks for your help. Today i had gone to Local Police Station and i am surprised (pleasent) to see that, my mother & my wife application is available in their table. Today i able to clear the police verification. They said that, monday they would be returning the documents to Passport office.

BTW, what would be the time where my wife & mother would get their passport?

Since your application is not listed in Database of Passport officer, I suggest that you should still go ahead with your application. That will speed up your process and make tracking of your application easy.
