Save the RTI Act

As RTI Activists we have been wasting our efforts by entangling ourselves in trivialities leaving the crucial aspects as a fait accomplii. We have been finding fault with politicians for not giving adequate priority to the RTI Act. But the words of our Hon'ble Prme Minister even at a critical juncture of his concluding address to the Parliament in his ' Confidence Motion that " Especially important is the effective implementation of the Right to Information Act to impart utmost transparency to process of governance" compel us to think otherwise.
I think we have failed to appraise him the crucial issue of lack of accountability of the CIC / SICs and non-existence of any system to control and coordinate or rather bridle them. This has resulted in absence of a uniform Rules, uniform orders/procedure and their high handedness. Now no one can question a Commission if he ignore hundreds of applications of hapeless cityzens suffereing from the high-handedness of bureaucrates pending since more than 15 months to assign top priority to the unlawful request of an anti-national activist to the extend of hearing him at his place. There is no one to investigate or atleast ask as to what made the commission assign such importance to the unlawful request of an anti-national activist
The RTI Act contain a procedure for removal of CIC and SIC which is impossible to adhere to. Moreover no one want them to be removed but make them function efficiently abididing by the laws of this country

Establishment of "The Information Commission of India" to control and coordinate the activities of all the SICs and CIC would solve the problem. An Information Commission of India should be able to make uniform rules and make the commissions follow uniform procedures.

RTI Activists should concentrate the efforts to make the government establish an Information Commission of India for better performance of the Act. Later the activists could sort out the RTI problems directly with this Commission instead of struggling in isolated pockets.

Re: Save the RTI Act

Dear Sri Kurup,
You are correct instead of postmorting we should think of reformation or else we are wasting our time in discusing.
1. There must be accountibility.
2. There should be general rule show that people will not need to put querry.
It is marked that many informations are knowingly kept hidden only for that one has to ask under RTI,
eg. some specific train is late and announcement is "yatriyo ko asubidha ke hetu hame khed hey" . If they say the reason of late none is going to enquire why it is late. there are many such examples
